Leader - Nancy Cooper call 707-8425 or
e-mail coopern@ohio.edu Bicycling is a new group this year. We do not have a leader
yet for this group, so some of the details have not been yet been determined.
This will be a group for women to get together and bicycle on the bike path,
and/or on the roads, and/or on the trails, depending on the interests of the
group. COMPUTER KNOWLEDGE / INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY Leader
- Margaret Thomas. Meetings will vary. The Computer/IT
group is a new idea this year! We will talk about computer and technology
issues and provide opportunities for our members to learn about and share
skills and techniques. Some of the topics we hope to cover are: problems with e-mail, using the Internet,
options with word processing, spreadsheets, presentations and digital
cameras. The topics will be
member-driven. Our meetings can be a combination of discussions,
problem-solving, demonstrations or Q & A forums. We hope that many
volunteers will share their expertise as we develop this group. Feel free to contact thomasm@ohio.edu if you have any questions. Contacts
- Ruth Nostrant. Meeting at 10:00 a.m.
on the 2nd Thursday of each month from September through May. Several Day
Book members who have been regularly active in this group for many years,
and they are always welcoming new members into the group. At their May
meeting they select the books that they will be reviewing the following year,
so some of them get a head start on their reading over the summer. They enjoy reading and discussing books on
a wide variety of topics from biographies to fiction. Leader
- Betty Craddock. Meetings will vary. Day
Trippers get together with the AFAN
“Special Events” group to take fun day trips around the region, usually
within a couple of hours drive from Athens.
Sometimes they visit museums or outdoor gardens, sometimes they tour
local places of interest, sometimes they go shopping, but they always have a
lot fun together! Leaders
- Belle Cancellare and Beth Tragert.
Meetings will vary. Evening
Book Review is a very relaxed,
fun-filled group of women who get together one evening a month (to be
determined) to discuss a book they have all read. They have lively
conversations, socialize, and learn a lot. They agree on their reading list
for the year at their first meeting in the fall. Leader -
Erika Figueroa. Meetings will vary. If you like to play golf, please join us on
Tuesdays at 1:30 p.m. at the Leader
– Sue Ellis. Meetings will vary. The
Hiking group is for all women who enjoy getting out into the woods to hike,
regardless of ability. They take hikes anywhere from 2 to 6 miles in length
in the beautiful parks right here around Athens, as well as in our state
parks within an hour’s drive away. Sometimes they pack their lunch or a snack
and eat on the trail, and other times they have lunch at a café after they
get off the trail. Leaders
– Jeanne Haseley and Stephanie Hysmith. Meeting – 2nd Tuesday. International Cooking has always been a
very popular interest group. We currently have two groups, and will form a
third group if the need arises. We
like to keep the size of each group down to a number of people that can
reasonably fit around a dinner table in someone’s home. The group decides on
a cuisine for the next month’s dinner.
Each member cooks her dish at home, then they meet at someone’s house
to share the meal. There is usually
lots of great food, good wine, wonderful conversation, and friendships
developed at these get-togethers. Leader
– Liz Stinaff. Meeting – 1st
Wednesday (or Thursday) Ladies
Night Out is a fun way for women
to get together once a month to eat at one of our favorite local
restaurants. We get together the 1st
Wednesday of each month to share a meal and some laughs. This is a great excuse to get a night out
away from responsibilities for one night in the week. If you join this group, you
will be reminded of the date ahead of time by e-mail or phone so we can make
specific reservations. Rides can be shared. Please contact Liz at lizstinaff@yahoo.com for any
questions. of each month at the Ohio University Inn. They meet at 11:15 for lunch in the
dining room, then move to a smaller room to play bridge. Some people just bring a brown bag lunch
and eat while they play. They try to
have two or three tables playing each time they get together. This is a great
way to meet women who share your passion for the game of bridge. LUNCH UPTOWN & AROUND TOWN: Leader–
Margaret Thomas. Meeting 2nd Friday. Beginning 11:45 a.m. Lunch
UpTown & Around Town can be
close to the university or just a short distance away, but our purpose is to get
together once a month and enjoy good food and good company at the end of a
busy week. We catch up on the news,
share stories, and comment on the local and global events. If you join this group, you will get a reminder by e-mail or by
phone so we can make reservations. Please feel to come “on time” or a
little late, depending on your circumstances. Rides can be shared. See Tentative schedule below. Direct your

– Jan Weckman. Meeting – 4th Wednesday.
Scrapbooking is led by Jan Weckman
on the 4th Wednesday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Athens Public Library.

styles. Whether your style is traditional scrapbooking or digital, we're here
to support you. Our group is about
sharing memories and ideas. No matter
what stage of memory keeping you're
at, we're here to help you through it.
Some come with boxes and bags of pictures and memorabilia to
organize. Some come with a pre-set
project in mind, and some come to see what it's all about. Whatever your approach to
memory preservation may be, come join us each month & leave with a story
in hand. Leader – Elsa Heffelfinger. Meeting on 3rd Tuesday. Stitch
& Chat has been led by Elsa Heffelfinger and has been meeting the 3rd
Tuesday of the month from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon for several years. This is a wonderful opportunity to sit and
