Description

Provides an overview of public relations, its history, development, practice, and application. Surveys techniques, strategies, and tactics used by public relations practitioners.

Prerequisites

Prerequisites: SOPH OR JR OR SR.



Methods of Course Instruction

Blackboard course content, email submissions, textbook readings.

Course Objectives

To familiar students with the principles of public relations.  This is the foundation course and, therefore, focuses on the theories governing public relations practice.  At the end of the quarter, students should understand:the role and functions of public relations in modern society;

  • the history of public relations;

  • ethical and legal considerations for public relations practitioners;

  • theories and methods governing public relations practice; and

  • the application of public relations strategies in various settings.


General Course Requirements

Weekly writing assignments.
