To get started:

  1. Take Self Assessment Quiz. (See if an online course is right for you.)
  2. Register before Monday, January 5, 2009
  3. Activate your oak e-mail account at http://technology.ohio.edu/myaccount/activate.html
  4. Purchase textbook(s) or supplies.
  5. Email your professor(s) by the third day of class so he/she knows you've begun work on the class. Failure to make contact with your professor may result in you being disallowed to continue in the course.
  6. Begin classwork
    (You will receive from us an e-mail message letting you know how and when to access the course.)
    If you wish to access Ohio University's Alden Library distance learning services please follow this link http://www.library.ohiou.edu/serv/offcampus.html. Registration allows you the use of electronic resources, requesting & borrowing resources from OhioLINK, document delivery, "ask a librarian," and much more.
  7. Notify the Ohio University Online staff of your proctored exam arrangements (if required for your course(s)).
Academic Dishonesty
Acts if Academic Dishonesty can result in lowerd grade for the work in question and /or course as deemed appropriate by the instructor. Serious cases may also be referred to the Director of University Judiciaries for further action which may include suspension or dismissal. Words of Advice:

Ohio University Online classes offer flexibility and convenience, but are demanding and may not be the best option for all
students.

Taking a web-based course means more than just using a word processor. It requires you, the student, to change your role in the learning process and become more of an active learner. You must take responsibility for your own learning. Self-discipline and self-motivation become very important.

You also need a solid set of computer skills for optimal success. The skills needed include knowing how to operate your word processor and perform tasks such as being able to cut and paste, save your files in several different formats, and save your files to a variety of locations. Your internet skills should include knowing how to log in, use e-mail and e-mail attachments, use your browser effectively, make bookmarks, chat, and use search functions.

Time management and organizational skills are also very important. In an online environment, you must be resourceful and able to work independently.
