JOYCE BARLOW DODD has
been involved in promoting the literary activities based at Ohio
University in Athens for over twenty years.
Since 1978, she has donated
time to THE OHIO REVIEW -- as a designer and as
an editor -- and, since 1998, has held the position of Managing
Editor/Art Director.
From 1989-1998 she was
the Coordinator of Special Programs in Creative Writing in the
Department of English, where she was responsible for all aspects
of the visiting writers programs, including the total administration
of the annual Spring Literary Festival. The Festival has
come to be regarded as "the premier literary event in the
State" (The Columbus Dispatch) with audiences from
all over Ohio and from surrounding states enjoying the free readings
and lectures.
She has taught classes
at the University, has been the advisor for the undergraduate
literary magazine Sphere, has published poems in literary
journals, has published photographs, has designed eight books
of poems, has designed covers, numerous ads, and other printed
resources for THE OHIO REVIEW, and has written and designed
a number of brochures. Over the years, her Spring Literary Festival
poster designs featured and showcased artwork by artists such
as Wright Morris, Katherine Kadish, Cynthia Coburn, Velvet Wildermuth,
Mary Manusos, and Kenneth Patchen, as well as holdings from such
local institutions as the Columbus Museum of Art and Ohio University's
Kennedy Museum of American Art.
