In this course we discuss and analyze the monetary or payment aspect of international transactions. In doing so, we shall seek answers to several questions. How are international payments made? What is the balance of payments and what is meant when it is said the balance of payments is in surplus/deficit? What does determine the exchange rate in the forex market? What are the different types of exchange rate systems? How are balance of payments deficits/surpluses corrected under different exchange rate systems? What is the role of the International Monetary Fund in the world economy? How does the contemporary floating exchange rate system operate? What are the prospects for international monetary reform?
