Course
Description

Introduces productivity software within the framework of business applications. Involves hands-on assignments including Windows, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation graphics, the Internet, and e-mail.

Prerequisites

C or better in MATH 101.



Methods of Course Instruction

This class is conducted online.  All course related information will be maintained on Blackboard.  Students are responsible for retrieving assignments, handouts, study guides, etc. from Blackboard...  Students are required to activate their Oak Accounts and to check their email regularly. Assignments must be grouped for each week and submitted by email. When you email your assignments, you must provide the correct information in the email subject field. The following are some examples.

Email subject field format: CTCH125 Summer2008 your name – assignment name and #
Example 1: CTCH125 Summer2008 Down Scott – Weekly Log 1
Example 2: CTCH125 Summer2008 Down Scott – Word Chapter 1 and 2


Course Objectives

  1. To distinguish computer hardware from software.

  2.  To identify the basic components of modern PC's.

  3.  To get familiar with the basic operation of Windows operating system.

  4.  To master the basic skills of word processing, spread sheets, and presentation.

    Specifically:

  • To create and edit a Word document.

  • To create a research paper with MLA style.

  • To create a resume using a template and a cover letter with a letter head.

  • To create an Excel worksheet and an embedded chart.

  • To apply formulas and functions to worksheets.

  • To format worksheets following the requirements.

  • To create a PowerPoint presentation with the required features.

Final Exam: 25 and 27 -August (Monday - Wednesday)
