Course Objectives |
This course covers the history and theorization of photography. Topics covered include photographic techniques, types of photography such as documentary, photo narrative, landscape, and black-and-white and color photography. Students will be introduced to some basic critical theory about photography and its relationship to other art forms and visual culture throughout history. |

Required | Text(s) Mary Warner Marien, Photography: A Cultural History (2nd edition). Prentice Hall, 2006. There is a first edition that is not significantly different from the second edition. See what you can find on Amazon’s used books and on eBay. Keep in mind that the worksheets are based on the material in the second edition.
