Description

Survey of key economic, political, ideological, and social elements that have shaped destinies of black people in the United States from 1865 to present.

Prerequisites

None



Methods of Course Instruction

The course methods of instruction will included Blackboard course content, discussion boards, lecture notes online, email submissions, and response questions relating to CD accompanying the textbook.

Course Objectives

  1. To achieve competency in the major historical topics and themes of the African American experience, 1877-1990.

  2. To write critically about the current historiography covering the some of the topics dealt with in this course

  3. To evaluate the use of quantitative evidence and interdisciplinary approaches in the assigned readings.

Weekly readings and discussion board participation, class attendance, annotated bibliography, final exam
