Description

Survey of key economic, political, ideological, and social elements that shaped destinies of black people in the United States from 1526 to 1865.

Prerequisites

None



Methods of Course Instruction

The course methods of instruction will included Blackboard course content, discussion boards, lecture notes online, email submissions, and response questions relating to CD accompanying the textbook.

Course Objectives

  • To achieve competency in the major historical arguments of the African American experience, 1450-1865.

  • To pose an argument and demonstrate evidence of that argument in a short essay.

  • To evaluate the use of quantitative evidence in selected historical writings.


General Course Requirements

Weekly readings and discussion board participation, class attendance, Early American Newspapers and African American History summary project, final exam
