The coursework prepares the student by utilizing a care of professional program courses
while also allowing them to concentrate in adventure recreation, outdoor education and
camping, and recreation management. After successfully completing the requirements and
officially applying for degree conferral, the student will be awarded the Bachelor
of Science in Recreation Studies. The recreation studies curriculum prepares the student
to assume positions in city recreation and park departments; state and federal government
agencies; religious organizations; camping; commercial, institutional, or collegiate recreation.
Adventure Recreation (Major Code: BS8113)
This option focuses on planning, conduction, and administering high adventure and wilderness
skills programs. The student may qualify for positions with various wilderness and survival
schools, outdoor leadership programs, expedition outfitters, and commercial enterprises
in high adventure activities. Career opportunities are also increasing in programs involving
juvenile offenders in both public and private agencies.
Outdoor Education & Camping (Major Code: BS8108)
This option focuses on planning, conduction, and administering outdoor recreation programs,
with special emphasis available for school-oriented programs and resident camping. The
student may qualify for positions as an interpretive naturalist, outdoor education resource
person, camp director, visitor information center director, or supervisor of outdoor
recreation programs in federal, state, or local agencies.
Recreation Management (Major Code: BS8109)
This option focuses on the administration of recreation programs and qualifies the student
for positions with public recreation, voluntary agencies, residential institutions, and
camp administration. This option also prepares the student for employment in a modern
collegiate recreation program.
