Felix V. Gagliano is a Professor Emeritus of Political
Science. He has a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois (1967),
amd a M.A. from Louisiana State University (1961) where he also
received his B.A.. He taught as an Assistant Professor of Political
Science at Purdue University (1965-70), and has since been teaching
at Ohio University (1970-Present).
His research and teaching specializations are Southeast
Asian Politics, Politics of Development, and Leadership/Elite
Studies. He has lived for more than six years in Malaysia and
Singapore, and has had extensive annual travel to Europe, Asia,
Africa, and Latin America.
His recent publications include "The Convergence
of Lifelong Learning and International Education" (Chubu University
- Ohio University Conference, Special Lecture), "The Globalization
of the University" (The North Central Association Quarterly),
and "The Path from Confrontation to Cooperation: International
Educators and the Accreditation Community" (International Education
Forum). Courses he teaches include POLS 340 Politics of Developing
Areas, and POLS 490Y/590Y Political Elites and Leadership. Just
a few of the distinctions Professor Gagliano has earned while
teaching at OU are Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award, Fulbright
Fellowship (Malaysia), and he has also served as Vice Provost
for International Programs (1981-1996). He has also taught as
a visiting professor both in Malaysia and Japan, and served as
President of the Association of International Education Administrators
(1994).
