Dear Parents/Guardians:
Welcome to the Ohio University family. We have made every attempt to identify some of the more commonly asked questions we have received from parents over the past few years and have incorporated the answers in this guide. In addition, we distribute several other publications at Precollege. If you have any remaining concerns or should questions arise during the school year, it is my hope that you will feel comfortable contacting the appropriate staff or faculty person or accessing our Web site at http://www.ohiou.edu/.
There are two main sources of assistance for academic or student life concerns. First, each college within the University has its own academic dean, whose office addresses academic-related issues such as academic advising, preregistration, adding and dropping courses, and academic dismissal. The Student Affairs unit addresses out-of-class activities and concerns such as, but not limited to, student activities, student life, counseling and psychological services, residence life, judiciaries, community service, international student concerns, public occasions, health education and wellness, career services, and multicultural programs.
Telephone numbers for each of these offices are listed on-line.
Whether this is a first child or last child leaving home (or somewhere in between), it is never easy. There will be times of joy, sadness, anxiety, frustration, and celebration. Relationships will change between you and your child, and certainly between your child and his/her peers. The Ohio University community is filled with learning opportunities in and outside the classroom. We will work hard to encourage your daughter or son to take full advantage of the broad spectrum of programs.
We also invite you to visit the campus for Parents, First-Year Parents, Moms, and/or Dads Weekends.
I am pleased you will be joining the Ohio University family. I look forward to meeting you sometime during the coming year.
Sincerely,
Terrence J. Hogan, PhD.
