BILLING AND FEES
- When are school fees due?
Tuition and room and board fees are due for fall quarter on or before August 23,
for winter quarter on or before December 20, and for spring quarter on or before March 13.
Failure to make a timely payment will result in a $100 late fee. Monthly Payment Plan
deadlines are as follows: fall quarter: September 1, 2005, October 3, 2005, and November 1,
2005; winter quarter: January 3, 2006, February 1, 2006, and March 1, 2006; spring quarter:
April 3, 2006, May 1, 2006, and June 1, 2006; summer quarter: June 19, 2006 and July 17, 2006.
Failure to make timely payments on the Monthly Payment Plan will result in a $25 late fee.
- Can I pay tuition and room and board fees monthly?
Yes, there is a monthly payment plan at Ohio University. Students who arrange for the monthly
payment plan will be issued an eBill approximately three weeks before the installment payment is
due. For additional information, visit the Office of the Bursar website or call the Office of
the Bursar at 740-593-4130.
- When will we receive registration bills?
Fall Quarter eBill notifications will be emailed the first and second week of August with a
due date of August 23. Students will be receiving an eBill notification the first week of December
2005 for the initial Winter Quarter billing and the last week of February for the initial billing
for Spring Quarter. A complete billing schedule can be found on the Office of the Bursar website.
- What is the refund policy if a student withdraws or drops a class?
Students can request a refund by accessing their Current Account Statement or by visiting the
Office of the Bursar. Withdrawal before the first day of classes results in a 100 percent refund;
through the 14th day of the quarter, an 80 percent refund; and after the 14th day of the quarter,
no refund. Please refer to your housing contract for the room and board refund schedule.
STUDENT HEALTH INSURANCE
- Must I purchase student health insurance for my daughter or son to be
eligible for care at the Student Health Center?
No. The Student Health Service is available to any student registered for classes at Ohio University.
However, all Athens Campus domestic students taking seven or more credit hours and all Athens Campus
international students taking one (1) or more credit hours are required to have insurance. Students will
be billed automatically for the student insurance. For domestic students, the student health insurance
can be waived by accessing their Current Account
Statement or by completing the waiver at the Office of
the Bursar in Chubb Hall.
STUDENT EMPLOYMENT PROGRAMS
- What jobs are available for students not receiving Federal Work Study
(FWS) employment and how are they obtained?
There are two programs that aid non-FWS students in finding employment,
both on and off campus: the Centralized Student Employment Service (CSES), and
Job Location and Development (JLD). The dining halls, snack bars, and campus
recreation facilities, including the Ping Center, are independent hiring

- Is it wise for students to work during their first year? Won't employment
interfere with their studies and adjustment to college?
If the student has a desire to work, he or she should be encouraged to do
so. The average student employee actually works 10 hours a week. Work
assignments are scheduled before, between, or after classes to meet the needs
of both students and employers. Having an on-campus job can actually help the
student to organize his or her time better and make valuable contacts on
campus.
FINANCIAL AID/STUDENT LOANS
- If a student has received financial aid, when will those dollars be
applied to her or his account?
When you receive your bill for the quarter from the Bursar's Office,
any financial aid you have been awarded, except Federal Work Study, will
appear as credit on the bill to be applied against your charges. You
need to pay the difference or balance due, in any, by the due date on
the bill to avoid a late payment fee.
- If a student has received more financial aid than their charges, when will
the overage be disbursed?
Assuming all requirements have been met the student is registered for the
appropriate number of hours, refund checks are sent to local addresses or
direct deposited starting on the first day of classes each quarter and
continuing through the quarter. It is important that students regularly check
their e-mail accounts for disbursement notices as well as other important information.
- Which programs require completion of the Free Application for Federal
Student Aid (FAFSA)?
The FAFSA must be completed annually in January or early February to be considered
for federal, state, and some institutional financial aid programs, including
need-based scholarships. Students and parents are encouraged to obtain PIN
numbers from the U.S. Department of Education in order to use FAFSA on the Web.
- What are Federal Direct Student Loans?
Federal Direct Student Loans are a way for students and parents to borrow
money from the federal government to help pay for college. There are three
types of Direct Loans: Subsidized, Unsubsidized, and the Parent Loan for
Undergraduate Students (PLUS). In order to receive student loans, students
and parents must first complete the FAFSA then follow instructions included
in their award packets.
