Checklist of
Web Page Features to Use
Each of the items listed here provides a link to the complete discussion of that topic in Appendix VI.
- Use filenames and folder (subdirectory) names that are legal on all platforms.
- Choose a good title for your page.
- Always specify every image's height, and width, and ALT text.
- Use server-side imagemaps.
- Link to existing resources, instead of re-inventing the Web.
- Use list structures whenever the document's contents are in fact a list, including nested lists.
- Each home page should provide shortcuts for the reader to go to all of the primary links without having to scroll down.
- Panoramic ("banner") graphics function well on the top part of the first screenful of home pages.
- Include full contact information: telephone numbers and postal mailing address.
- Use informative text for links, rather than "Go Back" or "Return".
- Exercise care when choosing fonts for text within graphic images.
- Anchor tags for sending E-mail ("mailto:" links) should specify a single destination address for the message.
