Bobcat enthusiasm soarsThe U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, led by Lt. Col. John Venable, BS '81, were the headline attraction at the 2001 Vectren Dayton Air Show in July. The event was a veritable Bobcat bonanza, with a large contingent of Ohio University alums on hand. The weekend also featured induction ceremonies at the National Aviation Hall of Fame, headed by Executive Director Mike Jackson, BSED '68, and Deputy Director Ron Kaplan, who attended Ohio University from 1976 to 1978. Other Bobcats attending were Connie Tobias, AAS '77, BGS '68, a US Airlines captain, and Fritz, BSEE '42, and Dolores Russ, benefactors of the Russ College of Engineering and Technology. The air show also featured the Avionics Engineering Center's restored green and white DC-3, emblazoned with the Attack Cat logo. A number of aviation students were on hand to answer questions. "I was amazed by the Ohio alums and prospective students who stopped to ask about the University, Russ College and our aviation program," said Mark Smith, the college's director of external relations. -- Corinne Colbert
