Cooperation,
Collaboration, and Community: Challenging Work, But
Worth It
Professor Milt Cox, of Miami University, is an innovator in the development of FLC's. He is Director of the Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching at Miami University and founded and directs the Lilly Conference on College Teaching, is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal on Excellence in College Teaching, and facilitates the Hesburgh Award-winning Teaching Scholars Faculty Learning Community. Dr. Cox also is project director of a FIPSE grant establishing faculty learning community programs on other campuses. He is recipient of the C.C. MacDuffee Award for distinguished service to Pi Mu Epsilon, the national mathematics honorary, and a certificate of special achievement from the Professional and Organizational Development Network in Higher Education in recognition and appreciation of notable contributions to the profession of faculty, instructional, and organizational development. Dr. Cox is a popular choice for workshops nationwide. |

Faculty Learning Communities
A
FLC is a cross disciplinary faculty or staff group of 6-12 persons
that is focused on enhancing teaching and learning within the
university community. These groups could be cohort-based or theme
based. At this year's Spotlight, several of the active FLC's on
the Ohio
University campus will be showcased. These include the Service
Learning FLC, the Multi-Media Educational Resource for Learning and
Online Teaching (MERLOT) community
which focuses on the use of technology in pedagogy and the "Teaching in and
about Appalachia
