Sunday, May 11th

    Camera Speaks Reception

    Camera Speaks is a photo exhibit that gives international students a chance to show what they find different about Athens as compared to their home countries. This provides a medium through which to communicate their feelings about life in the United States. Join students, faculty, and community members to share in dialogue with the participating students and enjoy light refreshments. Photos will be on display all week.

    Liberia: A Fragile Peace Documentary

    Liberia: A Fragile Peace tells of the Liberian people’s struggle to rebuild their country after a violent civil war. After years of bloodshed and corruption, the film brings forth many voices and diverse personal experiences to reveal what really happened to this nation founded by former American slaves. Tuesday, May 13th

    World Drumming Party

    Ohio University’s School of Music, the Center for International Studies, the Multicultural Center, and the Ohio Valley International Council (OVIC) hold the World Drumming Parties every Tuesday from noon to 1:00 at the West Portico of Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium. Drummers of all ages and skill levels are invited to join in the fun. World percussion expert and Associate Professor in Ohio University’s School of Music Dr. Paschal Yao Younge – Co-Artistic Director of the African Ensemble - will lead the sessions.
    The drumming parties are free and open to the public. Participants are encouraged to bring their own drums, but extra drums will be provided at the venue.     A Taste of Study Abroad

    Celebrate the sights, smells and tastes of the world at A Taste of Study Abroad, sponsored by the Office of Education Abroad. Sample food from more than 20 countries and collect information on study abroad programs. Stop in Grover Center on May 14 from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. to experience this fair that celebrates food and culture from around the world.  The fair is free to the public.

During International Week, crafts from around the world such as Guatemalan worry dolls and Jamaican Rastafarian bracelets will be made! Come and learn about other countries while you’re getting crafty!

Saturday, May 17th

    International Street Fair

    Athens' International Street Fair has evolved over time to become a local and regional favorite. This year's event, set for May 17, marks the conclusion to Ohio University's 2007 International Week celebration. The street fair, which runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., is a collaboration of the university's international student groups and nonprofit community organizations. Over 30 groups will have stands at the fair, including 15 or so selling food, making it one of the biggest Street Fairs that OU has experienced!


    Court Street between Union and East Carpenter will be closed, and a stage will be located at the intersection of Court and Washington where international dance and music will be showcased by university and community organizations. Performers for this year include: International Jamming, Athenian Eastern Dancers, Capoeira, Indonesian Saman Dancers, Japanese Student Association and more!

    World Cup Soccer/World Cup Soccer Finals

    This is a great way to meet new people and have a great game of soccer while you’re at it! Interested students should meet on the South Green soccer fields at the specified time to form teams that will represent each continent. There will be US/North America, Latin America, Europe, Africa, and Asia teams. Join the team that represents the continent you’re from or the one you identify the most with. Matches will be played in a tournament fashion and the World Cup Finals will be held on May 18th!

    OU World Cup is an international themed tournament put on to promote competition and soccer at OU. This year there are four teams, USA/North America, Latin South America/Europe, Asia, and the defending champs Africa.

    12-12:30 lunch break
    12:30 pm Latin South America/Europe vs. USA 1:30 pm Asia vs. Africa
    2:30-3 pm Break
    3 pm Africa vs. Latin South America/Europe

    5:30 pm Final

    Even if you don't play, or don't want to play competitively, come for a day of fun and entertainment to cheer on your friends.

    Perspectives: Visions of Southeast Asia Photo Exhibit

    Come take a look at some great moments our friends at OU have experienced while traveling in Southeast Asia! The goal of the exhibit is to promote awareness in Athens of Southeast Asia and the Southeast Asian Studies program’s 40th anniversary, 1968-2008. The photos are taken throughout Southeast Asia by students, faculty, and staff of Ohio University and will be on display in the 2nd floor Learning Commons in Alden Library.
