I. PREREQUISITES
Nine hours of Psychology including Psychology 101.

II. COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course provides a survey of abnormal psychology. Disorders are discussed in terms of their symptoms, associated characteristics, demographics, etiology, assessment, and treatment. The disorders covered in the course include anxiety disorders, dissociative disorders, somatoform disorders, mood disorders, suicide, schizophrenia, adjustment disorders, personality disorders, impulse-control disorders, childhood disorders, substance-use disorders, sexual disorders, eating disorders, sleep disorders, medical conditions affected by psychological factors, and cognitive disorders. Etiology, assessment, and treatment of disorders are viewed from biological, psychodynamic, behavioral, and systems approaches.

IV. NATURE OF THE EXAMINATION
The examination is three hours in length. It consists of multiple-choice and essay questions designed to test your knowledge, understanding, and ability to apply the material covered in the textbook. You should be thoroughly familiar with the terms used in the text, as well as the symptoms, causal factors, assessment techniques, and treatment of the major classes of psychological disorders listed above.

V. GRADING CRITERIA
Your grade will be assigned on the basis of the percentage of the available points that you earn on the examination. The following scale will be used:

A = 90-100%
A- = 86-89%
B+ = 82-85%

B = 78-81%
B- = 74-77%
C+ = 70-73%

C = 66-69%
C- = 62-65%
D+ = 58-61%
D = 54-57%
D- = 50-53%
F = 0-49%
