Overview: This
course is a philosophical study of humankind as culture-creating
beings. It covers questions in "philosophical anthropology,"
or the nature of human beings as symbol users, and is concerned
with the distinction between humans and other species. |

of Course Instruction:
All material for this course is web-based. Instructor and students
communicate through e-mail. All assignments are submitted through
the course website. Examinations cannot be taken by e-mail. |

| Number
of Lessons:
The course has twelve lessons, including two supervised examinations.

| Types
of Writing Assignments:
Each of the ten regular lessons contains five essay questions
for which answers are to be submitted. The questions are based
on the textbook chapter covered in each lesson. |

Examinations:
There will be supervised midcourse and final examinations, each
lasting two hours. The midcourse covers the first five lessons,
and the final covers the material in the second half of the
course. The examination questions will resemble those in the
"Writing Assignment" section of each lesson and are essay in
nature.
If you reside near an Ohio University campus, you must take
your examination at the nearest campus. Others can arrange
to have their examinations proctored at another accredited
college or university or, if it is more convenient, at an
accredited local high school. Ohio University reserves the
right to reject a proposed examination supervisor. Detailed
information about examination procedures will be included
with your enrollment material. Examinations
may not be taken online nor by e-mail. |
