I. PREREQUISITES
OTEC 121 or equivalent introductory keyboarding course. Student must have access to a computer with Windows (3.x or 95) and one of the following wordprocessing programs: Wordperfect (Windows version), Microsoft Word or Works for Windows.

II. COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course continues development of keyboarding speed and accuracy, as well as emphasizing document formatting on the computer. Formats such as tables, forms, memos, reports, and letters are covered.

IV. EXAMINATION FORMAT
The examination has two parts:

(1) Two 5-minute timed keyboarding exercises on straight copy. Timing must be done by the proctor or the computer. (40 percent)
(2) Production of four documents: memorandum, letter, form or table, and report. (60 percent)

Note: If you intend to take the examination in Athens, you must take it at the Independent Study office Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. This exam cannot be given on Tuesday evening or Saturday morning, and you must make a specific appointment at least 24 hours in advance of the day you wish to take it.

You must use a computer with Windows (3.x or 95), a printer, and either WordPerfect (Windows version) Microsoft Word (or Works). You may not use a typewriter or stand-alone wordprocessor for this examination. It is highly recommended that you have the examination proctored by a keyboarding or office skills instructor.

You will be provided with a blank formatted disk with your examination.

You will be allowed 20 minutes for Part 1 and 80 minutes for Part 2. All materials will be provided; you are not permitted to use books, notes, or supplementary aids.

V. GRADING CRITERIA

Timed keyboarding (5 minutes, 6 or fewer errors per timing):

55 wpm or more
50-54 wpm
40-49 wpm
35-39 wpm
Below 35 wpm
