ECON 320W - Labor Economics
Four Quarter Hours

 
Prerequisites: ECON 103 and 104
 
Course Overview: This undergraduate course studies the economic forces generating modern labor problems, the history of the labor movement, labor in politics, labor-management relations, wages, and full employment.
 
Methods of Course Instruction: All material for this course is web-based. Instructor and students communicate and exchange materials through e-mail.

Technical Requirements: The following operating systems and browsers are fully tested and supported by Blackboard:

Other combinations of operating systems and browsers may be compatible with Blackboard 6.3. However, they have not been fully tested so you may experience problems.

 
Number of Lessons: The course consists of fifteen lessons, including two supervised examinations.
 
Types of Writing Assignments: Each of the thirteen regular lessons contains several essay questions which the students are to answer and submit for evaluation.
 
Examinations: This course requires a supervised midcourse and final examination, each lasting two hours. The final covers only the second half of the course. The exams contain essay-type questions and definitions similar to those in the lesson assignments.

If you reside near an Ohio University campus, you must take your examination at the nearest campus. Others can arrange to have their examinations proctored at another accredited college or university or, if it is more convenient, at an accredited local high school. Ohio University reserves the right to reject a proposed examination supervisor. Detailed information about examination procedures will be included with your enrollment material. Examinations may not be taken online nor by e-mail.
 
Grading Criteria: The course grade will be determined in the following manner:

Average of lesson assignments = 20 percent
Midcourse examination = 40 percent
Final examination = 40 percent

Grades will be converted to a numerical scale, and the final grade will be assigned as follows:

90 - Above = A
80 - 89 = B
70 - 79 = C
60 - 69 = D
Below 60 = F
