ORGANIZATIONAL COMMUNICATION DOCTORAL CONSORTIUM: IF YOU KNOW ANY ORGANIZATIONAL COMMUNICATION GRADUATE STUDENTS WHO MAY BE INTERESTED IN TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THIS GREAT OPPORTUNITY AT THE ICA ORGANIZATIONAL COMMUNICATION DOCTORAL PRECONFERENCE, PLEASE ENCOURAGE THEM TO SIGN UP AND ATTEND ON THURSDAY, MAY 26, 2005. We have a fantastic set of speakers and discussion leaders (see list below) who have graciously volunteered to share their own experiences and help us address the issues, challenges, and opportunities faced when first starting teaching and research careers in today's globalized university. It will be a great day-hope to see you there. DESCRIPTION: The doctoral consortium is a daylong pre-conference workshop on professional issues for doctoral students in organizational communication. Students who are nearing completion of their coursework, or who have completed coursework and are writing their dissertations, are eligible to participate. This year's consortium theme, " Research and Teaching in the Global Context," addresses the challenges and opportunities of working in the global university. At the consortium faculty and students from different cultural, national, theoretical and epistemological perspectives will discuss the global dimensions of research, publication, teaching, and service. Sessions, by junior and senior faculty, will examine the preparation of the global professoriate, doing global research, working in international collaboration, opportunities for funding international scholarship and pedagogy, teaching in the global classroom , tenure and global perspectives and publishing in the international arena. Professional socialization issues such as completing the dissertation, making career transitions, and developing a successful publication strategy will also be covered. 1.
