Ohio
University in Hong
Kong
‘‘We
believe that our dreams to learn never graduate. All of us here in
Lifelong
Learning are committed to working with you to explore new educational
opportunities,
develop unique venues for learning, and design the most effective
delivery
formats. We are dedicated to helping learners clarify their needs and
find
the best options to meet their goals. And, we invite you to join us in
this challenge.”
Thomas A. Shostak, Ed.D
Dean of
Lifelong Learning
For
the past 65 years, Ohio University has offered off-campus degree
programs
to provide lifelong learning opportunities. In 1985, Ohio
University
Division of Lifelong Learning developed a cooperative agreement with
Hong
Kong Baptist University School of Continuing Education, making Ohio
University
the first overseas university degree program in Hong Kong.
Students
can earn an American university Bachelor degree in four years by
attending
full time evening classes and some students have completed their degree
program in less than three years. Students can also attend
part-time
evening classes and take as long as they need to complete their
degree.
This makes Ohio University a good choice for students who work
full-time
jobs during the day. The academic degrees awarded in Hong Kong
are
the same degrees awarded to students attending classes on campus in the
U.S. All course work can be completed without leaving Hong
Kong.
Ohio
University faculty members conduct on-site courses for four weeks in
Hong
Kong. Their teaching is followed by instruction from local faculty
members
for terms of approximately eight to ten weeks. This combination of
on-site
teaching and distance learning options has helped residents of Hong
Kong
reach the educational goal of earning a degree from an accredited US
institution.
Established
in 1804 in the state of Ohio in Athens, Ohio University is the
oldest
public U.S. institution of higher learning. Admission to Ohio
University
is granted to the best-qualified applicants as determined by a
selective
admission policy. Ohio University is fully accredited and has been
cited
for academic quality and value by such publications as America's 100
Best
College Buys, Princeton Review's Best Colleges, and Peterson's Guide to
Competitive Colleges.
While
there are nearly 3000 colleges and universities in the U.S., only 289
are
recognized as major research institutions and accredited to grant
Doctoral
degrees. In 2003, U.S. News and World Report ranked Ohio University 45th
in the nation. The John Templeton Foundation has also recognized
Ohio
University as one of the top character-building institutions in the
country.
We
are proud to continue our fine tradition of offering onsite and
distance-
learning options to residents throughout the world. We believe this
educational
venture is unique because it allows you, without leaving Hong Kong, to
be taught by full-time Ohio University faculty while you work toward a
regular Ohio University degree.
