Hydrogeology

It is expected that most applicants will have a solid background in Geology, but students with other scientific backgrounds are encouraged to apply to the program. Students with minimal geological backgrounds need to consult with their advisor regarding a course of study. Appropriate background in the following areas must have been completed at the undergraduate level or must be completed as deficiencies that do not fulfill the course requirements of the M.S. degree:
   ¤ Geomorphology
   ¤ Field Geology ("Field Camp")
   ¤ Minerology
   ¤ Petrology
   ¤ Stratigraphy/Sedimentology
   ¤ Structural Geology

Graduate Requirements
The following courses are required unless equivalent courses have been completed at the undergraduate level. Completion of a minimum of eight letter-graded graduate courses plus completion of a thesis in hydrogeology are required for graduation.

Hydrogeology Core Course:
¤ GEOL 505 Modeling and Computational Methods in Geology
   ¤ GEOL 576 Subsurface Methods
¤ GEOL 580 Principles of Hydrogeology
¤ GEOL 581 Groundwater Flow Modeling
¤ GEOL 582 Transport Processes in Groundwater
¤ GEOL 585 Introduction to Applied Geophysics
   ¤ MATH 340 Differential Equations#
¤ Students must also take an approved field course in hydrogeology
   # Consult advisor regarding graduate credit for this course.

Suggested Optional Courses:
   ¤ GEOL 527 Water Geochemistry
   ¤ GEOL 529 Contaminant Geochemistry
   ¤ GEOL 553 Physical Limnology
   ¤ GEOL 567 Tectonophysics
¤ GEOL 665 Basin Teconics and Hydrocarbon Exploration
