Broken Power Lines

Power lines lying on a vehicle:

  • If a person is inside the automobile, do not exit the vehicle.
  • Wait for the utility company to kill the power to the line.
  • Exit the vehicle ONLY once the power to the line is cut off and the power company gives the go-ahead.

Power lines lying on the ground:

  • Do not approach the area where the power line has fallen.
  • If you happen to be standing adjacent to a power line that has fallen, keep your feet together and do not walk away from or towards the fallen power line.
  • Do not touch any material that a power line may be resting on.
  • Wait for the utility company to shut down the downed power line and/or provide instructions.
