HISTORY
The Academic Support Staff Council was created on June 1989 by Carol Harter,
V.P. for Administration and President Ping. The first meeting was held July 19,
1989. At first retreat, August 1991, the name was changed to Classified Staff
Advisory Council. It was again changed to it's current name, Classified Senate,
in May 1998. For more details of this organization's history see the Historical
Outline.
GOALS
"Communication" is the number one priority of the council. "In order to be an
effective council it is important to be able to communicate our message, as well
as facilitate dialogue among our peers." The hope is to accomplish this through
members active participation at the committee level.
The handbook committee recently
developed the CSEN brochure and welcome letter introducing CSEN that is given
to new nbce. The listening committee is scheduling noon "listening sessions" for
nbce at different locations on campus. The coverlet committee continually serves
the CSEN mission every time a coverlet is sold.
Council pledged to better involve
the regional campus nbce on the affairs of council as each has a unique role
within the university community. Council amended the bylaws so that each of the
regional campuses is represented on council, and two meetings a year are broadcast
over the microwave to the regional campuses.
Council will also work toward continued
and improved support so that opportunities for professional development can be
realized. A fifth endowed account was opened in the name of CSEN to provide educational
opportunities to nbce in the way of workshops and seminars.
Council will continually
strive to better serve its constituents. The meetings are open to the public
and are scheduled on the first Thursday of every month. Please join us in "building
a better university."
