President
Greetings and best wishes for the New Year. The is a the state of the
2004-2006 work plan and develop a look at activities for Winter 2006.
Goals of 2004-2006
Work Plan
Among the key goals for the 2004-2006 period are:
§
Increasing participation in the governance mechanisms of the university
§
Supporting the professional development of the membership
§
Improving intra-group communication
§
Establishing COESAD’s archives
§
Striving for self-sufficiency
§
Contributing to the Urban Scholars program (financially and as mentors)
§
Developing a social program for the membership
Achievements
By the end of the 2004-2005 academic year, COESAD could identify the
following:
§
More of
the membership elected to the various senates.
§
More of
the membership serving on the university’s statutory committees
§
More of
the membership serving on crucial search committees.
§
The
development of improved intra-group communication systems —
§
specifically, the re-launching of COESAD’s web-site and establishing the
telephone tree.
§
The
launching of a social program.
There is still much work to done and it is hoped that we will be able to
advance that work during Winter 2006. The executive team is aware of the
time constraints we are all facing. We, however, ask you to give some
time to the following crucial tasks:
§
Participating in the process for the implementation Vision OHIO.
§
Paying
our annual dues.
§
Making
an effort to attend our general meetings
§
Making
an effort to attend our social events.

the Underground Railroad Museum/Freedom Center, Cincinnati, Saturday,

Bag Roundtable on Paul Lawrence Dunbar, Wednesday, February 15, 2006
from 12:10 p.m. in Multicultural Center, Lindley Hall. 2006 is the
centenary of the death of Paul Lawrence Dunbar.
§
“Unsung
Hero” featuring Top Brass. This free concert celebrates the work of Paul
Lawrence Dunbar. Templeton-Blackburn Memorial Auditorium from 8:00 p.m.
on Wednesday, February 22, 2006.
§
“The African
American presence after Black History Month,” display and reception by
the African American Research and Service Institute, Department of
African American Studies. Wednesday, March 1, 2006 from 6:00 p.m. in
1804 Room, Baker Center.
§
COESAD’s welcome reception for new members. Friday, March 3, 2006 (Time
and venue to be decided)

Ohio University Urban Scholars
In support of President Roderick
McDavis’
Urban Scholars Initiative, COESAD is asking for contributions to
sponsor an urban scholar this year. We are looking for at least 100
people to contribute at least $100. To participate, make your check
payable to “The Ohio University Foundation” and make a notation on the
check that says, “COESAD Urban Scholars Scholarship Fund.” Send your
check to: Ms. Janice Wright, COESAD Treasurer, W165 Grover Center, Ohio
University, Athens, Ohio, 45701. Alone, you might not be able to sponsor
a scholar, but together we can make it happen.
