OU-COM Will Avoid Layoffs

According to representatives from Ohio University and its College of Osteopathic Medicine, the solutions being developed to address a revenue shortfall at the college will not include layoffs of personnel. The announcement was made February 8 to employees during a college-wide meeting.

"Together with the provost and vice president of finance, we are reviewing the strategies which will effectively address the shortfall while maintaining our high level of community and clinical services as well as excellence in our academic programming," said Barbara Ross-Lee, D.O., dean of OU-COM. "We do not anticipate personnel layoffs.

"This university and medical school have a history of developing solutions to fiscal challenges without having to make reductions in personnel," said Ross-Lee. "We are proud that this history continues."

"The university views the medical school as a significant asset," said Sharon Brehm, Ph.D., Ohio University provost. "The many clinical and community services OU-COM provides to this region makes the college one of our strongest links to the Southeastern Ohio community."
