Michael Real Named Director of Ohio
University's E. W. Scripps School of
Journalism
Ohio
University's College of Communication has
named Michael R. Real director of the E.
W. Scripps School of Journalism, effective
July 1.
Real
is a professor of telecommunications and
film and director of the School of
Communications at San Diego State
University. He will replace Interim
Director Dan Riffe.
Real
completed a doctorate in communications at
the University of Illinois, master's
degrees in teaching and history at St.
Thomas College, and a bachelor's degree in
philosophy at St. Paul Seminary.
Real's
research and teaching focus primarily on
media, culture and social responsibility.
He has written several books, including
"Super Media: A Cultural Studies Approach"
and "Exploring Media Culture: A Guide."
Real has also written numerous articles
and television and radio programs.
Ohio
University's 75-year-old journalism school
is ranked among the top 10 nationwide. As
director, Real will be responsible for the
curriculum, faculty and staff of the
school's 800 undergraduate and 50 graduate
students.
