Joan and Wallace Phillips Academic
Services Center to Be Dedicated January
22
Ohio
University is proud to announce that
Saturday, January 22, is the official
dedication of the Joan and Wallace
Phillips Academic Services Center. The
Phillips Center, named by the Ohio
University Board of Trustees in honor of
Joan Phillips and her late husband, will
provide state-of-the-art academic,
computer, career-planning and counseling
center for Ohio University's more than 500
student-athletes. Located on the first
floor of the Convocation Center, The
Phillips Center includes over 3,000 square
feet of functional space, more than
tripling the capacity of the previous
academic services center.
Joan
"Jody" Galbreath Phillips' generous
philanthropic naming gift made this
academic services center a reality for
Ohio student-athletes. Jody, BSED '46, and
her late husband Wallace have been
long-time, loyal supporters of Ohio
Athletics.
Phillips
believes stronger academic support for
student-athletes will benefit current
students and attract quality recruits.
Phillips is also pleased with the
university's efforts to help students
balance academics with athletics. The
Phillips Center is scheduled to be
available to Ohio student-athletes on
Monday, January 24.
Anyone
who wishes to tour the facility may do so
at the conclusion of Saturday's basketball
game (Ohio vs. Western Michigan). Please
see the athletics department personnel at
the end of the visitors bench.
